The Southern River Band – 8 March 2026 (Sala Razzmatazz 2 – Barcelona)

12 March 20262 min read

The Southern River Band concluded the final leg of their European tour in Barcelona with a hard rock set that was both powerful and exhilarating. Their performance at Razzmatazz 2 confirmed that the Australian quartet are not just playing on nostalgia; they are reviving the most physical, urgent and fun-filled spirit of a genre that continues to find a powerful heir in them.

Right from the beginning, the band took to the stage with boundless energy, as if the fatigue of touring didn’t exist. Cal Kramer led the vocals with charisma and authority, while the rhythm section drove the performance forward with gusto from behind them. Meanwhile, the guitars crafted a raw, sharp sound with a classic feel, very much in the vein of the most iconic Australian rock.

The setlist drew heavily on Easier Said Than Done (2025), but also made room for tracks from earlier albums, creating a set that built in intensity. Highlights included the opening pair of ‘Don’t Take It to Heart‘ and ‘Something’s Gotta Give‘, the sing-along chorus of ‘All Over Town‘, and the final moments before the encores with ‘Chimney‘ and ‘Vice City II‘ – the perfect prelude to the encores, where the venue-filling crowd went wild for ‘Fuck You, Pay Me‘ and ‘Vice City III‘.

The standout feature of the concert was the band’s ability to take recognisable influences and make them their own. There were echoes of AC/DC, Thin Lizzy and 1970s hard rock, yet the band never sounded like copycats or relics from the past. On the final night of the tour, the Perth-based band made an impression as a group on the rise, capable of filling a medium-sized venue and leaving the audience feeling that they had witnessed more than just a good concert.
