Primavera Sound Barcelona 2026 – 03 June 2026 (Barcelona)

6 June 20264 min read

It’s been years now—specifically the six years my eldest daughter has been alive—since I’ve come to realise that any attempt to plan an arrival time for the Wednesday-Thursday slots at Primavera Sound is as much a work of science fiction as Christopher Nolan’s films or Cixin Liu’s books. Between endless goodbyes and the traffic jam on the ring roads of Barcelona, this year’s plans to arrive in time to enjoy Yard Act turned into arriving at the Parc del Forum minutes before Guitarricadelafuente’s concert began.

Guitarricadelafuente

The Castellón-born artist returned to Barcelona, which has been his home at various times, after critical acclaim was received in Cannes for his fledgling acting career. In a striking shift in style, both musical and physical, from the artist we saw a few years ago at Poble Espanyol, the opening songs – ‘Full Time Papi‘, ‘Calypso‘ and ‘Futuros amantes‘ – set the tone for a concert that had its ups and downs, due to an erratic setlist that mixed his liveliest and most delicate and intense tracks haphazardly. A case in point is the inclusion of “Caballito” or “Pipe Dream” between “El conticinio” and “Puerta del sol”…

After watching Álvaro wallow in the mud at the side of the stage as part of a somewhat disjointed performance, the summery ‘Port Pelegrísounded powerful and stood out as the best track of the night. The setlist then returned to his debut album with ‘Mil y una noches‘, ‘Agua y Mezcal‘ and ‘Guantanamera‘, which perhaps dampened the mood a little too much for a concert that had just started to embrace danceable rhythms. Thankfully, the Benicàssim performance treated us to yet another twist in the show: a theatrical rendition of “Tramuntana”, complete with a Napoleon-style jacket. This was the perfect prelude to a spectacular finale, with most of the audience jumping along to the beat of “Babieca!”. As we said at the start, depending on the song, we can encounter two sides to Guitarricadelafuente, who seems more at ease when performing the songs from Spanish Leather (2025).

Wetleg

Following their much-talked-about performance on the Cupra stage at last year’s festival, Wet Leg returned to Primavera Sound with their album Moisturiser (2025), which was hailed by critics and audiences alike as one of the best albums of last year.. Led by distorted guitars, they opened with “Catch These Fists” and the infectious chorus of “Wet Dream”, complete with clapping. They then jumped back and forth between their two released albums. Surprisingly, Hester Chambers played a minimal role, remaining discreetly in the background for almost the entire show. The first part of the concert was marred by poor sound quality, but this allowed Rhian Teasdale to showcase her vocal talents with her performance of ‘Davina McCall‘. A new, much more up-tempo set then emerged with ‘Pillow Talk‘ and ‘Too Late Now’.

With the crowd in the palm of their hands and eager to jump and mosh, the final 15 minutes were a party. It kicked off with the danceable ‘Angelica‘, followed immediately by the non-stop medley of ‘Chaise Longue‘, ‘CPR‘ and ‘Mangetout‘ – songs that the devoted crowd sang along to from the very first second, appreciating the band’s immediacy and skill.

Victor Ramos
