Gee Tee + Gripau – 2 August 2026 (Sala Upload – Barcelona)

8 August 20264 min read

On the night of the Gripau and Gee Tee gig at the Upload venue, there was hardly any time for a break. From the moment Gripau started playing, the crowd began to move. There was a certain energy about the gig: people were pressed up against the stage and bodies were moving in and out of the mosh pit. There were even some stage dives within just a few minutes.

Gripau have a punk attitude – their music is fast and direct – but they retain certain nuances that stop them from being reduced to a succession of fast-paced songs. The guitar, in particular, occasionally carves out its own space. Psychedelic solos emerge, creating open and strange moments that move away from the urgency of punk. Then the drums kick in again and the pace quickens once more.

This combination makes the concert work really well live. Gripau can switch from a punk-style blast to allowing the guitar riff to stretch out a little longer without losing the sense of danger hanging over the venue. There are no deliberate pauses to ease the tension, nor any moments when the audience can relax. Even between songs, it feels as though something is about to happen. And it does.

One person jumps off the stage and another appears from above the crowd shortly afterwards, causing the mosh pit to swell once more. Stage diving becomes a constant feature, to the point where watching the stage also means keeping an eye on everything around you. In short, you have to watch everything.

By the time Gee Tee arrive, the venue is fully set up and ready to go. The Australian band dived straight into their garage punk sound, playing fast-paced songs with raw guitars. Their set list raced along without giving the audience a chance to catch their breath. While Gripau got the night off to a flying start, Gee Tee took it to an even higher level.

The crowd responds immediately. The mosh pit grows in size and stage dives occur one after another throughout the concert. Gee Tee play non-stop, letting the songs flow into one another, while the energy comes from both the stage and a dance floor that seems to have a life of its own. By this point, the Upload venue is filled with sweat, the sound of blaring guitars and people trying to reclaim the space they’ve lost in the mosh pit. Stage divers keep appearing, and amongst them there are still those who find the strength to jump back in. It all happens very quickly, and just as quickly it’s over.
