Refused + Viva Belgrado – 28 October 2025 (Sala Razzmatazz – Barcelona)

5 November 20254 min read

Refused chose Barcelona as one of the final stops on their farewell tour, performing at the iconic Sala Razzmatazz on 28 October 2025. Expectations were high given the sizeable crowd, who were well aware that the legendary Swedish post-hardcore band was bidding farewell after a career spanning more than three decades, marked by several break-ups and reunions.

Viva Belgrado opened the evening and demonstrated why they are one of the most promising acts on the Spanish post-rock scene. They have been proving this throughout their tour for their magnificent Cancionero de los Cielos (2024), which is now coming to an end. Their performance was an electric journey of sonic crescendos, demonstrating that their new bassist, Cris G. Sánchez, has fully integrated into the sound of the Córdoba-based band. The appearance of Joan Delgado and Aleix Turón from Cala Vento on ‘Ikebukuro Sunshine‘ was memorable. It was undoubtedly one of the best songs of the night, alongside the bacchanalia of noise and distortion in ‘Chéjov y las gaviotas‘ and ‘El Cristo de los faroles‘.

When the curtain fell for Refused, the venue exploded with spectacular lighting effects for the audience, but also a real headache for the photographers in the pit…… With his blend of elegance and rage, Dennis Lyxzén dominated the stage, transforming himself into a combative frontman who had the audience going wild from the first chords of ‘Poetry Written in Gasoline‘ and ‘The Shape of Punk to Come‘. From there, they performed a mix of classic hits such as ‘Rather Be Dead‘ and ‘Liberation Frequency‘, alongside tracks from their latest albums. The audience enjoyed this blend of fury and nostalgia, moshing along to almost every song.

After winning over the audience even more with brief speeches about social justice, including references to the Palestinian people with Lyxzén himself waving the Palestinian flag, the highlight of the concert came with a magnificent ‘New Noise‘, a prelude to encores where the recent ‘Rev001‘ did not live up to the rest of the concert.. Luckily for us, there was still time to end the show on a high note with the incredible ‘Coup d’État‘, which was magnificent with its majestic drums.

And with the same elegance with which they arrived, but with a few litres more of sweat Refused said goodbye to a Barcelona that vibrated with the Swedes’ intensity and honesty. It is a shame that, given the current political climate, especially with the worrying normalisation of the far right, the stage is being left by bands like Refused just when their message and attitude are the perfect breeding ground for a better society.
