The Prize – 14 October 2026 (Le Nautilus – Perpignan)

19 October 20263 min read

If you weren’t in Perpignan on 14 October, I can tell you that you missed one of the most enjoyable gigs of the season. A group of friends and I decided to travel from Barcelona to see The Prize, and quite frankly, we couldn’t have made a better decision.

To provide some context, this band formed in Melbourne at the end of 2021. The line-up consists of Nadine on drums and vocals, Joe and Carey on guitars, Jack on bass, and Dave on vocals and guitar. After making a name for themselves with their debut EP, Wrong Way (2022), and their latest album, In the Red (2025), they embarked on a gruelling European tour, playing gigs in different countries almost every day. Such a tour can only be endured with plenty of attitude and a well-rehearsed live show.

The thing is, Australian bands have something special. They have a unique charisma, aesthetic and sound that instantly hooks you, thanks to their blend of fresh, fast and energetic power pop. Live, everything runs like clockwork. Nadine’s performance is particularly impressive, as she sings with such ease while keeping a powerful, relentless beat on the cymbals. Furthermore, the constant interplay between her voice and those of the other band members is impressive, combined with some meticulously crafted backing vocals, this gives the band’s overall sound tremendous punch. New tracks such as ‘Connie‘, ‘Don’t Need ‘Em‘ and ‘First Sight‘ sit perfectly alongside the Aussies band’s older material.

The gig took place at Le Nautilus, a small, recently refurbished venue and cultural centre with superb acoustics – ideal for experiencing music up close. Given that it was a weekday, it was striking to see how well the mostly middle-aged local audience responded. As for our group from Barcelona, we more than fulfilled our mission – we didn’t stop dancing, jumping and sweating for the whole show!

After the gig, we popped over to the merchandise stall to buy a few things, and we were delighted to find that, as well as being brilliant musicians, they are really lovely, down-to-earth people. They chatted with us for a while and even agreed to have a group photo taken, which is always appreciated. In short, if you have the chance to see The Prize during the rest of their tour, don’t hesitate – go and see them! If not, you can always console yourself by listening to them on repeat while lamenting your decision not to go.
