American singer Cassie Ramone, formerly of The Babies and Vivian Girls, arrived at Barcelona’s Magic Mountain to perform tracks from her latest album, Sweetheart (2024).
Of all the stylistic shifts the American artist has undergone, she is now at her most pop-oriented. During a short, fast-paced concert, the New Jersey native began the show with only a laptop, which served as a backing track player and projection controller. She explained that she had left her pedals at the previous night’s concert in Zaragoza, so she would be using more pre-recorded elements.
We don’t know if this was the reason why the concert felt so chaotic and erratic throughout. While tracks such as “He’s Still on My Mind”, “Joy to the World” (almost performed a cappella) and the brilliant “I’m a Freak” and “The Time Has Come” during the encores were a real treat, the Christmas-themed interlude was extremely long and made no sense whatsoever. Let’s hope that, next time they visit, we can enjoy a more consistent live show…
