{"id":5721,"date":"2014-03-04T20:05:50","date_gmt":"2014-03-04T19:05:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/indieofilo.com\/?p=5721"},"modified":"2023-11-22T00:19:01","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T23:19:01","slug":"breton-28th-february-2014-paradiso-amsterdam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indieofilo.com\/en\/gig-reviews\/breton-28th-february-2014-paradiso-amsterdam","title":{"rendered":"Breton &#8211; 28th February 2014 (Paradiso &#8211; Amsterdam)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\tJust two weeks after their concert in Madrid and Barcelona,<strong>&nbsp;Breton<\/strong>&nbsp;arrived to the small hall of&nbsp;<strong>Paradiso<\/strong>&nbsp;in Amsterdam under the label of one of the revelation bands of this 2014 that has just started, thanks mainly to its superb second album&nbsp;<em>War Room Stories<\/em>&nbsp;that went on sale in early February.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Breton - 28th  February 2014 (Paradiso - Amsterdam)\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5709 aligncenter\" height=\"533\" src=\"http:\/\/indieofilo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Breton-28th-February-2014-Paradiso-Amsterdam-2-711x533.jpg\" style=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"711\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\tWith a carefully staged where highlighting the cover of the new album, the band took the stage under the feature synthesiser lines from&nbsp;<em>Got Well Soon<\/em>, who served for a personal show of&nbsp;<strong>Roman Rappak<\/strong>, that wearied a&nbsp;<em>Boyz II Men<\/em>&nbsp;t-shirt that made go crazy to the majority female audience that was in the room. After a few words to thank the crowd their presence, was time to return to the near past, first with the suffocating&nbsp;<em>Pacemaker<\/em>, in which the various choirs and great beats were perfectly combined and later&nbsp;<em>Edward the Confessor<\/em>, in which the drums would be taking centre of the stage along with a visual spectacular. Perhaps too quiet&nbsp;<em>302 Watchtowers<\/em>&nbsp;served to lighten the mood, but moments later arrived madness with&nbsp;<em>Legs &amp; Arms<\/em>&nbsp;sharpen rhythms, probably one of the best songs of their new job thanks to the rhythms coming out of the bass lines of &quot;dancer&quot;&nbsp;<strong>Daniel McIlvenny<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Breton - 28th  February 2014 Amsterdam\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5717\" height=\"533\" src=\"http:\/\/indieofilo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Breton-28th-February-2014-Paradiso-Amsterdam-10-711x533.jpg\" width=\"711\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\tThe trip hop beats from&nbsp;<em>The Commission<\/em>, reminiscent of&nbsp;<em>James Blake<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Mount Kimbie<\/em>, were the prelude of the best moments of the night, which would arrive with a perfect interpretation of&nbsp;<em>Closed Category, Envy, Closing Correctly<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Search Party<\/em>. In the first one, that remember the best tracks from&nbsp;<strong>Local Natives<\/strong>, we could enjoy an almost perfect sound and spectacular staging, including interaction with the images from the projector, whereas the following three one approached Americans Friendly Fires, not only in its more danceable and fun aspect, but also in gestures and charisma of the singer of the band&nbsp;<strong>Roman Rappak<\/strong>&nbsp;or different effects on vocals and chorus present in the songs. The higher point of the night arrived with accelerated performance of&nbsp;<em>National Grid<\/em>, which overturned the public with the band with palms rhythm, while the room became a grand ballroom exalted by the beats launched masterfully by&nbsp;<strong>Ian Patterson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Breton - Amsterdam 28th  February 2014\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-5716\" height=\"533\" src=\"http:\/\/indieofilo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/Breton-28th-February-2014-Paradiso-Amsterdam-9-711x533.jpg\" width=\"711\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\tThe return to more recent past, where the increased presence of synths and electronic drums is the keynote, arrived with<em>&nbsp;Foam<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Jostle<\/em>, just before said goodbye to the public with the song that just closes their latest album,&nbsp;<em>15 minutes<\/em>, which was a perfect summary of what has been its evolution from LP to LP.
