{"id":1032,"date":"2015-03-07T13:33:21","date_gmt":"2015-03-07T12:33:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/testing.indieofilo.com\/?p=1032"},"modified":"2023-11-21T14:39:02","modified_gmt":"2023-11-21T13:39:02","slug":"idlewild-3rd-march-2015-bitterzoet-amsterdam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.indieofilo.com\/en\/gig-reviews\/idlewild-3rd-march-2015-bitterzoet-amsterdam","title":{"rendered":"Idlewild &#8211; 3rd March 2015 (Bitterzoet &#8211; Amsterdam)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\tLast Tuesday, <strong>Bitterzoet<\/strong> room in Amsterdam received the Scottish band <strong>Idlewild<\/strong> because of the presentation tour of their latest studio album <em>Everything Ever Written<\/em>, the first after about 6 years without releasing new material, also time in which the band itself announced an indefinite hiatus that allowed some members to focus on their solo careers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Idlewild - Bitterzoet Amsterdam 2015\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Idlewild-Bitterzoet-Amsterdam-2015-10.jpg\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 533px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6;\">Before an audience that almost filled completely the small room from the Dutch capital, <strong>Roddy Woomble<\/strong> and company started the show with songs of greatest punch of their new album, such as &quot;<em>Nothing I Can Do About It<\/em>&quot;, &quot;<em>Collect Yourself<\/em>&quot; and &quot;<em>Radium Girl<\/em>&quot;<\/span>,&nbsp;among which they played for the surprise of majority of the public their great hit &quot;<em>You Held the World in your Arms<\/em>&quot;.&nbsp;In those first moments the sound was somewhat deficient, mainly due to excessive volume of<strong> Rob Jones<\/strong>&#39; guitar and also on the kick drum, which powdered another of their great themes of the past, &quot;<em>Roseability<\/em>&quot; but as if by magic were solved immediately allowing us to enjoy an incredible cover of &quot;<em>Make Another World<\/em>&quot;, in which the violin by <strong>Hanna Fisher<\/strong> highlighted above all.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Idlewild - Bitterzoet Amsterdam March 2015\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Idlewild-Bitterzoet-Amsterdam-2015-2.jpg\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 533px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\tAfter the powerful start concert, the most renowned of their long career songs was interspersed with songs from their new work, showing that although these new songs show a remarkable album, the songs from their old discography achieved sounding with much more strength and claw. For instance we enjoyed a wonderful cover of &quot;<em>A Film for the Future<\/em>&quot;, again with the violin as protagonist, or songs like &quot;<em>American English<\/em>&quot; or now distant &quot;<em>Captain<\/em>&quot;, which transported us to the years of our adolescence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Idlewild - Amsterdam 2015\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Idlewild-Bitterzoet-Amsterdam-2015-5.jpg\" style=\"width: 800px; height: 533px;\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6;\">After about an hour of gig, the band chose to introduce some of the more intimate themes of their career, which proved to be a mistake due to contrast with the strength of their lyrics and guitars on songs more chanted by the audience . Thus, the guitars on &quot;<em>Little Discourage<\/em>&quot; and &quot;<em>A Modern Way of Letting Go<\/em>&quot; or drums on &quot;<em>The Captain<\/em>&quot; led to other songs such as the new &quot;<em>(Use It) If You Can Use It<\/em>&quot; or &quot;<em>The quiet Crown<\/em>&quot; sounded quite decaffeinated. The same happened with some bises who lacks force, especially after the distortions and volume of &quot;<em>In Remote Part \/ Scottish Fiction<\/em>&quot;, last song before the extras converted into a kind of jam session of more than 7 minutes.<\/span>.
